What are Kettlebells
Kettlebells have been used for some time to to build muscle and burn fat. Though the kettlebell is relatively new in North America, it has been used by bodybuilders, the military, and fitness gurus for hundreds of years.
Kettlebells comes from Russia. Basically it is a hand held cast iron weight shaped like a big cannonball with a flat bottom and a handle. The first known written account dates back to 1704 where you can find it in a Russian dictionary. I guess you would not find the word kettlebell because the Russian call the weight girya, and the men who lifted these weights were called gireviks.
Pavel Tsatsouline is credited to bringing kettlebells to North America as a trainer for the US Armed Forces.
